BP America’s Chair and President steps down

David Lawler has announced his resignation from the mobility company weeks after former CEO Bernard Looney resigned due to past personal relationships with company colleagues.

David Lawler announced his resignation as Chairman and President of BP America. The announcement was made through an internal memo sent to employees last week, according to a report by The Financial Times.
Lawler held top executive positions at BP in the United States since July of 2020 and stepped down a couple of weeks after Bernard Looney resigned as CEO of the company due to past personal relationships with colleagues.
Orlando Alvarez, current Senior Vice President of Gas and Power trading at the firm, will replace Lawler. He will also continue in its current role while the company announces if it will search for a new CEO of its American operations.
According to his bio in the company’s website, David Lawler started his career by working for oil giants such as Shell and Conoco before occupying his first top position at PostRock Energy Corporation as CEO and President of Pipeline Transportation. Then he joined SandRidge Energy, an oil and gas firm based in Oklahoma City, as Executive Vice President before being named as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of BPX in 2014.
