Carrefour Belgium has announced plans to inaugurate a pop-up store dedicated to its Carrefour Reeborn second-hand platform in Ixelles, marking a pioneering initiative in European food retailing.
Launched in November 2023, Carrefour Reeborn functions as both an online platform and a mobile application facilitating the buying and selling of second-hand goods. It enables individuals to sell their items, while Carrefour stores can also utilize the platform to clear out surplus non-food merchandise.
Users stand to benefit by earning revenue from the sale of their unused possessions, all while accruing Carrefour Bonus points which can be redeemed at any Carrefour outlet.
"Carrefour Reeborn offers a simple solution for a more sustainable and thrifty lifestyle. Thanks to a user-friendly platform for buying and selling second-hand items, we are helping to reduce environmental impact and offering exclusive benefits to our customers,” said Arnaud Lesne, Director of Innovation and Partnerships at Carrefour Belgium.
In addition to providing a space for second-hand transactions, the pop-up shop will feature a coworking area equipped with complimentary Wi-Fi access. Refreshments will also be available, including coffee and offerings from the Carrefour Buybye outlet.
Customers can create accounts on Carrefour Reeborn, list their items on the online platform, and potentially increase their sales prospects by showcasing their products in the pop-up store. Transactions for items displayed in the shop can be swiftly conducted through digital terminals, ensuring immediate payment for sellers.
The pop-up store's amenities, including the coworking space and dining options, aim to add to the shopping experience while aligning with Carrefour's broader sustainability goals.
