Copec has inaugurated its first electric fast charger in the city of Punta Arenas in Chile, making it the planet’s southernmost electric charger.

This project was carried out by Copec Voltex, a subsidiary of the company, and was developed within the framework of the public-private alliance “+Carga Rápida” promoted by the Energy Sustainability Agency (AgenciaSE). The inauguration was attended by the Minister of Transport, Juan Carlos Muñoz, the Seremi of Energy Sergio Cuitiño, as well as representatives of the AgenciaSE and the company.

Located at a Copec service station, the charger has a capacity of 120 kW, allowing a complete charge within 15 minutes.

“This milestone marks our firm commitment to promote e-mobility throughout Chile, including in cities where the supply of electric vehicles is still limited. But we believe that having the necessary infrastructure in place will facilitate people's decision to purchase electric vehicles, contributing significantly to addressing the environmental challenges posed by climate change and the sustainable energy transition,” said Francis David, commercial manager of Copec Voltex.

In 2023, Copec expanded its EV charging network to become the largest one in South America, extending it from 1,400 to 1,800 kilometers. Today, it operates more than 400 public charging points, including 116 fast-charging locations.

During this year, Copec Voltex expects to reach more than 2,500 chargers nationwide, which includes the installation of 40 new fast charging points at its service stations.
