A total of 10 convenience stores will host these events for five weeks, leveraging the retailer’s charging network established throughout its stores.

FamilyMart has partnered with Hyundai Mobility Japan to host a series of electric vehicle (EV) test drive events at 10 convenience store locations across Japan.
Running for five weeks beginning April 4, the test drives will showcase the manufacturer’s new INSTER model, giving customers a chance to experience EV driving firsthand on public roads. The initiative marks the first time a c-store chain in the country has hosted such events on its own premises.
This joint effort underscores FamilyMart’s continued commitment to sustainability and innovation. Since 2010, the retailer has been equipping stores with fast-charging stations and now boasts the largest such network in Japan’s retail sector, with approximately 580 locations nationwide.
By leveraging its parking lots as community hubs, the chain aims to support the spread of environmentally friendly transportation options.
As of March 2024, Japan has approximately 550,000 EV and plug-in hybrid vehicles in circulation, according to the retailer. The Japanese government’s Green Growth Strategy aims to make all new passenger car sales electric by 2035 at the latest, signaling strong momentum toward carbon neutrality and further EV adoption.
Through this campaign, FamilyMart and Hyundai aim to accelerate that shift but also redefine the role of convenience stores in the mobility ecosystem.
