Indian Oil Corporation has opened its first battery-swapping station for electric vehicles (EV) in the city of Kolkata.

The new facility is located at the company’s service station in New Town and is the latest of its collaboration with Sun Mobility. Through this opening, both parties aim to accelerate e-mobility across the country by making charging more accessible to two and three-wheeler vehicles.

"The battery-swapping technology presents a significant opportunity for promoting sustainable electric mobility solutions. This facility is expected to play a pivotal role in the adoption of EVs and spearhead energy transition in eastern India," said  V Satish Kumar, Marketing Director at Indian Oil.

The two companies are set to install more battery-swapping stations across the country in the coming months. These will be integrated to the chain’s fuel retail locations to enhance EV drivers' reach and confidence.

This initiative aims to reduce turnaround times, making EVs more user-friendly and contributing to the growth of e-mobility nationwide.
