The convenience store group’s network will now include 18 locations in the Chippewa Valley area after its parent companies filed for bankruptcy.

Mega Co-op, a Wisconsin-based convenience store chain, has announced it will close 13 locations after its parent companies, Cenergy LLC and Consumers Cooperative Association of Eau Claire , filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
As reported by WQOW News, the brand will go from a 31-store operating network down to operating 18 sites. Although the company gave the announcement, it has also declared not having plans to lay off any employees.
“The Co-op believes that the remaining 18 locations will continue to serve our community and Cooperative members. Our members can expect to continue receiving the many benefits that the Co-op offers and as we look forward, can expect that the Co-op will continue to identify ways to enhance the cooperative member benefits,” said Mike Buck, Co-op officer, in a press release.
Mega Co-op was established in 1935 and employs over 200 people in the Chippewa Valley. The firm acknowledged that this has been an important step to preserve “its future success” and has declared it is seeking authority to continue operations, which includes paying all employees.
