200 company-owned and independently-owned stores will be equipped with the technology to enable a modern customer experience and digital price labeling for store employees.

Following extensive testing, SPAR Austria stores are rolling out smart electronic shelf labels (ESL) to enable a modern and convenient shopping experience for customers and digital price labeling for store employees.
By year-end, 200 company-owned and independently-owned stores will be equipped with ESL. Making price labeling easier for employees plus appealing to customers was a prerequisite for the chain’s switch to digital labels.
The multi-year intensive test phase of ESL by SPAR led to a large portion of IT in-house work. During testing, certain products could damage electronic contacts and some power supply systems were prone to errors, leading to adjustments.
“We have thoroughly tested this option and are pleased that we can offer our customers and employees an innovative and forward-looking solution. The electronic shelf labels are an important step in the digitisation of our company and a sign of our quality and service,” says Hans K. Reisch, CEO of SPAR Austria.
The new multi-colour intelligent ESLs from VusionGroup and VusionCloud provide accurate product and price data in real-time. Consumers will benefit from accurate prices displayed on the ESLs at all times.
