Vivo Energy Zambia, the distributor and marketer of Engen fuels and Shell lubricants, has launched "Project Restoration" to combat deforestation and promote sustainability. The initiative will focus on a large-scale tree planting program in Lusaka's South Multi-Facility Economic Zone.

The ambitious project aims to plant one million trees in areas affected by deforestation and land degradation. The campaign officially begun on July 12, 2024, with the participation of various external stakeholders, including Lusaka South Multi-Facility Economic Zone, Japan Tobacco International (JTI), British American Tobacco (BAT), and Mohab Transport.

The project will prioritize planting indigenous tree species to ensure ecological balance and high survival rates. It also emphasizes sustainable planting practices, such as selecting appropriate sites, preparing the soil, and providing ongoing care to help the young trees mature.

“Trees are vital in combating climate change, improving air quality, conserving water, preserving soil, and supporting wildlife. This initiative aligns with our sustainability agenda, aiming to create lasting positive impacts on the communities we serve,” said Edward Walugembe, Managing Director of Vivo Energy Zambia.

A monitoring system will track the progress of the tree planting efforts, with regular updates and reports shared with all stakeholders involved.
