Galp Moçambique is looking to move ahead with expansion plans in Mozambique, aiming to grow its fuel and gas distribution network as the business climate improves following last year’s post-election unrest.

Speaking at the Maputo International Fair (Facim), Chairman Paulo Varela said the company expects to increase its petrol station network by about 10% annually. Galp, present in Mozambique for nearly 70 years, already operates 80 stations and plans to add 10 more by the end of the year, according to Agência de Notícias de Portugal.

Galp reported €300 million in turnover in 2024 and employs 2,000 people in Mozambique. Its network spans all provinces, supported by logistics terminals that supply fuel and cooking gas. Despite the challenges of vandalised sites during demonstrations, all stations are now operational.

“The fear has passed, and today we continue with our investment strategy. Every year we have grown our network, reinforcing our role in Mozambique’s energy sector,” Varela noted.

For Galp, the return to stability opens space to continue long-term investment in energy supply. “We are committed to Mozambique and to serving both its people and its economy,” Varela said.
