New project marks a milestone in zero-emission heavy transport using MAN trucks and Siemens chargers.

Galp and TJA (Transportes J. Amaral) have inaugurated Portugal’s first fully electric heavy-duty transport route, setting a new benchmark for decarbonising freight logistics in the country.
The route, which runs continuously between Oliveira de Azeméis and Mangualde, features two 100% electric MAN eTGX trucks. Each can support a range of 500 kilometers, supported by Siemens ultra-fast charging technology and managed through Galp’s digital energy platform.
This initiative introduces Portugal’s first 400 kW heavy vehicle charger, installed at TJA’s operational base in Estarreja.
“This project goes beyond a fleet upgrade – it’s a firm commitment to the future and the sustainability of the logistics sector. Thanks to the initiative of our customer Simoldes and the support of our partners Galp and MAN, we’re making a meaningful contribution to a cleaner transition in our industry,” said João Miguel Amaral, board member at TJA.
Galp plays a central role by providing the charging solution and enabling energy management through its digital platform. The system ensures that truck recharging schedules are optimized to support the 24-hour logistics operation, which also involves two semi-trailers.
The trucks, operated by TJA, are transporting automotive parts on behalf of the Simoldes Group, linking their manufacturing site in Oliveira de Azeméis with the Stellantis plant in Mangualde.
