Q8 has opened what it describes as Belgium's first "digital food market" at its Liège-Grétry service station, marking a step change in its foodservice ambitions for the Belgian and Luxembourg markets.
Customers can order freshly prepared dishes, including tacos, crunchy chicken and loaded potato wedges, via an in-store kiosk or through delivery platforms including Just Eat Takeaway.com, Uber Eats and Deliveroo. Panos sandwiches and Delhaize Shop & Go products are also available through the system.
The concept is built around a compact 4.5 m² smart kitchen connected to a digital ordering platform developed by Danish foodtech company Noahs. In Denmark, Q8 has rolled out the system to 88 stations, with locations featuring a smart kitchen recording a quadrupling of foodservice revenues within six months, 228% larger order sizes and 80% new online customers, according to the company.
"We are confident this will also be a game changer in Belgium," said Sarah Pillen, Shop & Dealer Performance Manager at Q8.
Q8 plans to pilot the concept across five locations initially, including Liège-Grétry, Herstal and Turnhout, before evaluating a wider rollout. The company operates more than 480 service stations in Belgium.
