Automotive giants unite to accelerate hydrogen mobility and infrastructure rollout.

BMW, Hyundai, and Toyota have officially launched the Hydrogen Transport Forum (HTF), a collaborative initiative aimed at fast-tracking the development and deployment of hydrogen-powered transport solutions across Australia.
As reported by Fuel Cell Works, the alliance seeks to bridge the current infrastructure gap, coordinate industry efforts, and advocate for the role of hydrogen in decarbonizing Australia’s transport sector. The HTF’s mission is to align fleet demand with refueling infrastructure, push for supportive government policy and funding, and promote greater public and industry awareness of hydrogen’s role in achieving low-emissions transportation.
The Forum will act as a unifying platform to consolidate data, coordinate investment, and facilitate stakeholder collaboration.
“This initiative is a proactive step toward industry-wide coordination and a genuine commitment to building the hydrogen refuelling and vehicle ecosystem needed to support Australia’s transport transition,” the founding partners said in a joint statement.
While battery electric vehicles currently lead the charge in zero-emissions transport strategies, the HTF underscores the critical role of hydrogen for heavy-duty and long-range applications, where fast refueling and payload capacity are essential.
Modeled in part after Europe’s H2Accelerate coalition, the HTF is set for a soft launch at the 2025 Brisbane Truck Show, with plans to broaden its reach to include stakeholders from transport, infrastructure, and the energy sectors in future phases.
