Co-op and Snappy Shopper have teamed-up to embark on a local store-to-door trial in Northern Ireland, expanding the retailer’s online home delivery of groceries.

The trial is part of the retailer’s approach to grow its online offer, with a focus on quick convenience where orders are picked fresh in its local stores and delivered quickly in the community. First launched from Co-op’s Shankill Road, Belfast, the initiative has been extended to another store in Kings Road, Gilnahirk.

Deliveries during the trial with Snappy Shopper are priced at just 99p, with orders delivered to homes and workplaces within approximately a 2.5 mile radius in under 60 minutes.

“We continually look for new ways to expand and grow our online offer, and are pleased to launch a trial with Snappy Shopper to provide increased customer choice and access to our products -serving our member-owners and customers close to our stores with what they want and need, when and where they need it,” said George Hayworth, Head of Online Development at Co-op.

Co-op has grown its ecommerce business at pace through its own online shop and with partners Amazon, Deliveroo, Just Eat, Uber Eats and autonomous robot deliveries in partnership with Starship Technologies.

The retailer operates around 2,400 food stores in the UK and provides products to over 5,000 other stores, including those run by independent co-operative societies and through its wholesale business, Nisa Retail Limited.
