Copec was awarded 70% of the new charging infrastructure in the latest public transportation tender in Gran Santiago to build 14 new e-terminals to power 895 new electric buses.

The company will increase its share in the RED system with 26 locations, which will supply energy to more than 2,000 e-buses. This figure represents 51% of the electric public transportation in the Metropolitan Region.

Its subsidiary Copec Voltex will lead the design, engineering, construction, maintenance, and the supply of 100% renewable energy to the new e-terminals.

“With this milestone, we will provide 100% renewable energy for 51% of the region’s electric public transportation, consolidating ourselves as the largest energy supplier for electric buses in Chile and contributing to Santiago's positioning as the city with the most electric buses outside of China,” said Andrea Castro, General Manager of Copec Voltex.

The facilities will feature fast chargers to ensure the daily operation of the new electric buses. These vehicles will operate in the municipalities of Pudahuel, La Pintana, Puente Alto, La Florida, San Bernardo, Huechuraba, Cerrillos, and Estación Central.

Currently, Copec has a total of 13 e-terminals in operation nationwide. Additionally, this year the company announced the construction of the first one for public transportation in southern Chile, located in the municipality of Penco in the Biobío Region.
