Korean c-store chain GS25 has launched its 300th store in Vietnam, marking six years since its entry into the Southeast Asian market in 2018.
GS Retail, the parent company of GS25, announced on Sunday that the new 393-square-meter store, situated near a university in Ho Chi Minh City, commenced operations on Thursday. This store features a diverse selection of Korean foods, including ramyeon (instant noodles) and kkwabaegi (twisted doughnuts), alongside Vietnamese snacks.
The company now operates the highest number of convenience stores in southern Vietnam, outpacing global competitors such as Circle K and 7-Eleven.
"Opening the 300th GS25 store in Vietnam is a testament to the success of our brand's competitiveness and localization strategy. We aim to become the leading convenience store in Vietnam and expand our presence as a global brand," stated Jung Jae-oh, head of GS25's overseas business operations team.
GS25's localization strategy integrates Vietnamese food culture with the Korean Wave and K-food, while providing versatile spaces that can function as restaurants or cafe-like areas.
As of January, GS Retail also operated over 270 stores in Mongolia. The company targets 500 stores in both Vietnam and Mongolia by next year, with plans to expand to 1,000 international stores by 2025 and 1,500 by 2027.
