The retailer has opened over 18,000 locations after 34 years of operations and is currently the leading operator in South Korea.

South Korea’s CU convenience store chain has set a new record with the opening of its 18,000th location at the end of April.
The company celebrated this milestone at its latest inauguration, which took place on April 30th, after 34 years of operating in the country. CU has stated that this achievement was possible thanks to the launch of exclusive products, including the Yonsei University Cream Milk Bread and the Fresh Lemon Highball.
The company opened its first location in 1990 and has been expanding across the country non-stop to operate the largest retail network in the country. According to Pulse News, GS25 operated 17,390 locations last year while 7-Eleven had 13,130.
CU is set to invest in decreasing costs linked to the size of its network, with BGF Retail, its parent company, investing close to ₩190 billion by 2026 for a large-scale logistics center in Busan.
