Irish retailer Maxol is rolling out HVO at selected forecourts on the island of Ireland. This move is part of the company's broader strategy to provide more environmentally friendly fuel options.

The new biofuel, branded as Maxol hvoPRO, is produced from renewable feedstocks such as non-food grade vegetable oils, used cooking oils, and residue fat fractions.

"We are hugely focused on mobility innovation, and this includes providing lower emission fuels and EV charging solutions for our private motorists, fleet, and Fuel Card customers," said Brian Donaldson, CEO of The Maxol Group.

Currently, eight Maxol locations are offering this eco-friendly fuel. These sites include M3 Mulhuddart and Turvey in Co Dublin, Coolshannagh in Monaghan, and in Northern Ireland at Mallusk, Townparks in Antrim, Eglinton in Derry, Ballymore in West Belfast, and Tannaghmore on the A26 from Antrim to Ballymena. The company plans to expand availability to additional sites later this year.

Maxol aims to have 30% of its fleet running on Maxol hvoPRO by the end of May, with an increase to 50% anticipated by early 2025. This initiative aligns with the company's mission to reduce its carbon footprint across its operations.
