The grants will support the production of renewable hydrogen through electrolysis.

The ORLEN Group has received PLN 1.7 billion (approximately €390 million) in non-repayable funding under Poland’s National Recovery Plan to advance its hydrogen initiatives, Green H2 and Hydrogen Eagle. The grants will support the production of renewable hydrogen through electrolysis powered by renewable energy and low-emission hydrogen from municipal waste.
Administered by Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego, the funding is part of a broader effort to strengthen Poland’s economy and competitiveness. ORLEN CEO Ireneusz Fąfara said the support aligns with the Group’s 2035 strategy, “The Energy of Tomorrow Starts Today,” and will help expand hydrogen infrastructure and reinforce European supply networks.
By 2035, ORLEN aims to reach 0.9 GW of hydrogen production capacity, mostly in Poland, supplemented by imports as infrastructure allows. Hydrogen Eagle focuses on producing hydrogen from renewables and waste, while Green H2 will install a 100 MW electrolyser with storage for the Gdańsk refinery.
The projects underscore ORLEN’s commitment to advancing hydrogen as a key pillar of the energy transition and to supporting Europe’s decarbonisation goals.
