TotalEnergies has opened its first fast-charging hub in Germany’s Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, as part of the country’s Deutschlandnetz project, focused on developing a national charging network for electric vehicles (EV).

The company has been awarded the contract for three regional lots by the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport and will take over installation and operational responsibilities. These will encompass a total of 1,100 fast-charging points for EVs distributed across 134 locations in eastern, central and western Germany.

In 2024, the contract was awarded for a further 166 fast-charging points at 33 unmanaged service areas. The charging hubs are supplied exclusively with electricity from renewable energy sources.

“By 2030, we want to invest several hundred million euros in charging infrastructure for cars and trucks and operate around 30,000 charging points nationwide. The German network plays a central role in this,” said Jan Petersen, Managing Director of TotalEnergies Charging Solutions Deutschland GmbH.

As part of the Deutschlandnetz, 9,000 additional fast-charging points for electric cars are being built at over 1,000 locations on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport. These are being built in rural regions, cities, and at unmanaged highway service areas.

“With the German network, we are making charging possible anywhere and at any time. We want to make e-mobility attractive for everyone, regardless of whether they live in a metropolis or a rural region. For e-mobility to succeed, we need a nationwide and, above all, reliable charging infrastructure,” added Dr. Volker Wissing, Federal Minister for Digital Affairs and Transport

TotalEnergies is also implementing further projects in Germany on its own sites and at partner locations such as supermarkets and shopping centers. The company currently operates a network of over 6,000 charging points across the country.
