TotalEnergies pilots dynamic prices for charging in the Netherlands
Last update: Feb 7, 2025
Fifteen charging stations will change charging prices based on availability of solar and wind energy to help customers save costs and enhance supply from the grid.

TotalEnergies has launched a pilot project to trial dynamic pricing for customers in the city of Utrecht, Netherlands.
During a trial period, fifteen charging stations will start implementing these dynamic tariffs. Charging prices will be adjusted based on the expected availability of solar and wind energy. This allows users to benefit from lower rates during times when more renewable power is available on the grid.
“The expansion of the charging network and the introduction of dynamic charging tariffs are important steps in making mobility in Utrecht even more sustainable. By making electric charging smarter and more accessible, we encourage the use of clean vehicles and work together to create a healthier living environment for all Utrechters,” said Alderman Eva Oosters, Deputy mayor for zero-emission mobility for Utrecht City Council.
The tariffs not only help save costs, they also contribute to a more balanced electricity grid. Depending on the initial results of this pilot, dynamic tariffs will become available in more locations.
“Utrecht is once again proving to be one of the frontrunners in making mobility in our country more sustainable,” added Stefan Evers, Managing Director of TotalEnergies Charging Solutions Netherlands.
By 2025, the company aims to establish 38 fast charging points at 17 locations throughout the city. These locations will be located near stores, sports facilities, a park and the cab stand at the central station.
Each TotalEnergies location will have fast chargers tailored to the needs of the users, with capacities ranging from 50kW to 400kW per fast charger.
