Wawa has gone full digital at one of its convenience stores in Philadelphia by transforming it into a shelfless location. The site only allows customers to make their purchases through the retailer’s mobile app or the in-store touchscreen kiosks.

According to a news report by the Philadelphia Business Journal, the store is located on Drexel University’s campus. When each order is completed and paid, store personnel pull together the items and give them to customers.

The remodeling of this 8,760-square-foot Wawa store took only six days and builds on the company’s growth strategy to explore new retailing models. This nontraditional concept aims to leverage the industry’s shift into new formats that can enhance the customer experience.

As stated by the company, the transformation didn’t impact any jobs at the store and is confident this new format will help customers get their orders faster.
