Copec Voltex, the e-mobility subsidiary of Copec, has inaugurated a new charging terminal in the city of Penco, in Chile’s Biobío region.

Developed in collaboration with operator Ruta a las Playas and local authorities, the new facility will supply energy to 16 next-generation electric buses that will serve the Greater Concepción area. The terminal follows the RED standard and is the first in the country to integrate a new system of retractable overhead chargers, an innovative solution designed to improve operational safety and efficiency.

Equipped with eight high-power chargers (150 kW), the terminal runs entirely on renewable energy supplied by Copec Emoac.

“This project demonstrates that e-mobility is no longer a promise, but a reality that is transforming people’s lives. Bringing this level of infrastructure to the Biobío region reflects our belief that all parts of Chile should lead the shift toward a cleaner and more sustainable public transport network,” said Andrea Castro, General Manager of Copec Voltex.

Strategically located, the new terminal ensures smooth integration between interurban services and local routes, streamlining daily commutes for thousands in Greater Concepción.

Copec Voltex continues to scale up its nationwide charging network for public transit. In addition to 12 operational charging terminals in Santiago, the company plans to open 20 new terminals this year, to support nearly 55% of the electric bus fleet in the country’s Metropolitan Region.
