InstaVolt has opened a new electric vehicle (EV) charging hub at Caxton Gibbet, a key site located around central Cambridge, England.

Positioned along major east-west travel routes between the A1 and M11, the facility is intended to enhance charging access for both long-distance travellers and local drivers in the region. The new hub features 12 ultra-rapid 160kW chargers, including three fully accessible bays designed to accommodate a wide range of users.

Its proximity to popular leisure destinations such as the National Trust’s Wimpole Estate and Hayley Wood Nature Reserve makes it a convenient stop for holidaymakers and day-trippers exploring the East of England.

The site also benefits from on-site amenities including a McDonald’s and a Costa Coffee, offering additional convenience for drivers while charging their vehicles.

“This new site supports drivers travelling between the A1 and M11, providing fast, accessible, and reliable charging. It’s a step forward in building infrastructure that not only supports EV adoption but also sustainable tourism and regional economic growth,” said Simon Smith, Chief Commercial Officer at InstaVolt.

In keeping with the company’s sustainability goals, the Caxton Gibbet hub is powered entirely by renewable energy.

The site adds to InstaVolt’s growing network of nearly 2,000 chargers across 730 sites nationwide, expanding the UK’s capacity to support its increasing EV population.
