CU has officially opened its first U.S. store in downtown Honolulu, becoming the first Korean convenience store brand to expand beyond Asia. Operated by BGF Retail, the new location marks a strategic move into the American market.

Supported through a master franchise agreement with local partner CU Hawaii LLC under WKF, the over 200 m² store is located in Honolulu’s main business district. The retailer is positioning the store under the theme “K-food meets Aloha,” combining Korean favorites with local flavors and curated collaborations.

Ready-to-eat meals are a major focus with three distinct lines: K-original, K-fusion (developed with celebrity chef Sheldon Simeon), and Local flavor. The brand has also partnered with Island Vintage Coffee to serve freshly brewed Hawaiian coffee.

Reflecting growing global interest in Korean lifestyle, the store includes a K-beauty zone with 40+ cosmetic products, a “ramen library” for on-site noodle cooking, DIY tteokbokki kits, and a photo booth featuring CU’s characters.

BGF Retail plans rapid expansion across major tourist areas and commercial districts, targeting 50 Hawaii locations within three years.
