HVO100 rollout to reach 38 Spanish airports in partnership with South, slashing CO₂ emissions by up to 90%.

Ground handling firm South has partnered with energy company Moeve to introduce HVO100 renewable diesel across its operations in 38 Spanish airports.
The move is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 90% compared to conventional diesel. South plans to use over 150,000 liters of HVO100 in 2025, powering more than 200 ground service vehicles including aircraft starters, buses, and tractors.
The rollout began in late 2024 at the Málaga, Granada, Jerez, and Almería airports and will soon expand to Barcelona, Badajoz, and Córdoba.
“Partnerships like this bring fast, effective solutions for greener airport operations. Combined with our ongoing SAF supply, HVO100 helps reduce the aviation sector’s carbon footprint from the ground up,” said José Emiliano Pardo, Moeve’s Director of Direct Sales.
Produced at Moeve’s La Rábida facility, HVO100 is compatible with existing diesel engines, enabling quick adoption. The companies are also exploring deployment in island airports, where the fuel is not yet available.
Moeve is developing a new biorefinery to boost production of HVO100 and SAF, aiming at an annual capacity of 500,000 tonnes of HVO100 and SAF, targeting 2.5 million tonnes by 2030.
