Oxxo has announced the installation of 150 BioBox smart recycling machines at selected stores in Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Nuevo León, and Jalisco

This initiative builds on the retailer’s commitment to sustainability and aligns with its goal of achieving Zero Waste to Landfill by 2030. BioBox operates "reverse vending machines" capable of recognizing materials, identifying brands, and processing recyclable waste through separation, compacting, and shredding. This encourages a recycling culture by making it easier to collect plastics, metals, and other materials.

"This partnership not only reinforces Oxxo's commitment to sustainability but also provides our customers with an accessible tool to contribute to recycling in a practical and effective way, rewarding their efforts with Spin Premia points," said Ángela Barragán, Environmental Manager at Oxxo.

Customers who recycle with BioBox will accumulate points that can be converted into Spin Premia loyalty points, which can be used to pay for products at the chain’s 22,000 stores nationwide.

The project kicked off with the first BioBox machine at the Oxxo Apolonia store located in Mexico City. The goal is to drive sustainability and raise awareness across the company’s footprint in Mexico.
