Shell has publicly denied speculation that it was considering a takeover bid for rival energy company BP.

In a statement issued in response to recent media reports, Shell confirmed that it has not made an approach to BP and that no discussions have taken place regarding a possible offer. The company further clarified that it is not actively exploring such a move and, under Rule 2.8 of the UK Takeover Code, formally declared it has no intention of making an offer for BP.

This declaration legally restricts Shell from pursuing a bid unless specific circumstances outlined in the Code arise.

Shell emphasized that its current strategic focus remains unchanged, highlighting its commitment to delivering greater value while reducing emissions. The company stated it will continue to prioritize performance, financial discipline, and operational simplification as part of its long-term strategy.
