Shell Czech Republic has introduced Shell BioLNG, a 100% renewable liquefied biomethane (BioLNG) offering, marking a significant step in the company’s mission to decarbonize road freight transport.

Building on the opening of its first LNG station in the country last year, the company now supplies BioLNG at both of its Czech LNG sites: Svatá Kateřina (D5 highway) and Dobšice. The fuel enables at least 60% CO₂e emissions reductions (without avoided emissions considered) and up to 100% reductions when taking into account avoided emissions from advanced agricultural processes, compared to standard B7 diesel fuel.

"Not even a year has passed since launching our first LNG station, and we’re already offering Shell BioLNG in the Czech Republic. Gas mobility is a practical, economically sustainable path toward green transformation,"  said Daniel Vagaský, Chairman of the Board at Shell Czech Republic.

Due to the fuel’s identical properties to conventional liquefied natural gas (LNG), existing LNG vehicles and infrastructure require no modifications, allowing  companies to instantly reduce their carbon footprint.

The energy giant continues to expand its BioLNG production and infrastructure across Europe. In 2024, the company opened a new BioLNG liquefaction plant in the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park in Rhineland, Germany, with a capacity of up to 100,000 tons annually, enough to support around 5,000 heavy-duty trucks with substantial CO₂ reductions.

Across Europe, Shell operates 72 LNG fueling stations, including over 30 in Germany and 9 in the Netherlands. Moreover, Shell’s LNG card is accepted at more than 150 LNG stations continent-wide, ensuring broad access for European hauliers.
