First of up to 20 new convenience stores to open nationwide by the end of the year.

Asda has opened the doors to its brand-new Express store in Castleford, marking the start of the latest phase in the retailer’s rapid convenience expansion.
The site, located on Holywell Lane and transformed from a former pub into a modern convenience store, is the first of up to 20 Express locations set to open across the UK before the end of the year. This new store brings Asda’s signature value and wide product range to the local community, offering more than 3,000 branded and own-label products to meet everything from quick top-up shops to meals on the go.
Customers will also have access to convenience-focused services including a Costa Coffee machine, ATM, and Amazon collection and return points.
“We’re delighted to have opened the doors today in Castleford, marking the start of our Express store rollout as we bring Asda’s unbeatable value to new communities across the UK,” said Joseph Sutton, Vice President of Asda Express, Foodservice and Fuel. “From top-up essentials to convenient food-on-the-go options, we’re excited to welcome new customers and offer outstanding value.”
On-demand delivery through Uber Eats, Just Eat, and Deliveroo will further enhance accessibility. In addition, all new Express locations, including Castleford, are equipped with electronic shelf edge labels (ESLs) from day one, simplifying store operations and improving the shopping experience.
Since entering the convenience sector in 2022, the retailer has grown its Express presence at pace. Nearly 500 Asda Express stores are expected to be operating by the end of this year, with further expansion planned for 2026.
