The government of Buenos Aires has announced plans to install 400 electric vehicle (EV) charging points across the city over the next two years, as part of a broader effort to promote sustainable mobility and support the transition to zero-emission transportation.

The initiative will see charging stations deployed at fuel stations, commercial garages, shopping centers, and on sidewalks near parks, public buildings, and other strategic locations. The rollout is part of the new Electromovilidad Porteña program, which aims to boost the city’s EV infrastructure through collaboration with the private sector.

Under the plan, private companies will be responsible for the investment, installation, and maintenance of charging stations, while the city will define technical requirements, issue permits, and oversee urban planning.

“We want to become a leader in electric charging infrastructure and support the growth of this zero-emissions industry,” said Mayor Jorge Macri. “Our goal is to install 200 charging points in publicly accessible private spaces and another 200 in public spaces within the next two years.”

A key requirement of the new regulations is that all charging points must be connected to a real-time app that shows users charger availability.

Private-access sites such as commercial garages, fuel stations, and shopping center car parks will be able to install AC chargers from 7 kW (slow charging), with the option of DC chargers for faster charging. Public installations will feature chargers from 22 kW (semi-fast) in both AC and DC formats.
