CU has opened its first dessert‑focused convenience store in Seoul’s Seongsu district, positioning it as a new hotspot for Korea’s fast‑evolving dessert culture. The retailer aims to tap into the rising popularity of K‑desserts among local consumers and international visitors.

The 120㎡ CU Seongsu Dessert Park store expands the chain’s strategy of offering themed locations that blend products, design and customer experiences. Past concepts, such as its ramen and snack specialty stores, have gone viral on social media and attracted foreign tourists seeking “must‑visit” K‑convenience‑store spots.

At this new format, the focus is on an enhanced dessert assortment, which is roughly 30% larger than a typical store. A dedicated curation zone brings together the company’s most popular dessert lines, including Yonsei Milk cream buns, Dubai‑style pastries, Bakehouse 405 items and fresh‑fruit sandwiches. A central showcase highlights the newest dessert drops alongside pairing options such as iced drinks, yogurt and coffee.

The store also introduces a DIY dessert zone featuring an oven‑air fryer, whipped‑cream dispenser and a selection of toppings so customers can personalize their creations. Real‑fruit smoothie machines and self‑serve kiosks add to the experiential format designed to draw foot traffic.

Last year, CU’s dessert sales grew 62.3% year over year, with its Dubai series surpassing 10 million units sold and Yonsei Milk cream buns nearing 100 million cumulative sales.
