Pilot site in Nacka with Skellefteå Kraft combines solar, fast charging, and storage to ease grid load and boost access to renewable energy.

OKQ8 and Skellefteå Kraft have unveiled a new pilot charging station in Nacka that combines solar energy, fast charging, and battery storage to support the energy grid while expanding access to renewable electricity for electric vehicles (EV).
The launch marks a major milestone in their long-term partnership and a leap toward sustainable mobility solutions. Under their existing collaboration, Skellefteå Kraft is responsible for the investment, operation, and maintenance of charging infrastructure at OKQ8 sites.
With the Nacka pilot, the partnership introduces energy storage into the mix. Solar panels on the station’s roof generate electricity that is stored in batteries, enabling high-power charging even when grid capacity is limited.
“This improves charging access for our customers and helps us meet growing demand. Our partnership with Skellefteå Kraft has been crucial – we complement each other and make it possible to realize solutions that might otherwise remain ideas,” said Helen Axelsson, Director of B2B Sales at OKQ8.
The pilot project demonstrates how locally produced solar energy, renewable electricity, and smart technology can come together to power the next generation of transportation.
The next step will be to evaluate the pilot and explore scaling the concept to more stations across Sweden.
