OKQ8 targets retail hubs in new EV charging push
Last update: Jun 3, 2025
Sweden’s largest ultra-fast charging network expands beyond fuel stations to shopping areas alongside Skellefteå Kraft.

OKQ8 and Skellefteå Kraft are taking their electric vehicle (EV) charging partnership to the next level by expanding their focus from traditional service stations to retail and shopping centers across Sweden.
This new initiative aims to make EV charging more accessible in everyday settings, accelerating the country’s transition to sustainable transport. Until now, the collaboration has centered on installing ultra-fast chargers at staffed OKQ8 locations, with a total of 800 charging points expected to be in place by 2026 — all powered by renewable electricity from Skellefteå Kraft.
As this goal nears completion, the companies are shifting their attention to strategic commercial sites throughout the country.
"Driving an electric car should be easy no matter where you are in Sweden. By offering fast and accessible charging at retail hubs, we’re contributing to a more sustainable transport system," said Helen Axelsson, Director B2B Sales at OKQ8.
The new strategy marks a significant shift, from drivers having to seek out charging stations to integrating charging into everyday life. By installing chargers at locations such as supermarkets and shopping districts, the aim is to encourage more people to choose electric vehicles by making charging part of routine errands.
A dozen new charging locations are expected to launch this year, with the first already operational at Coop on Delesgatan in Ed, where customers can charge their EVs while shopping.
