Repsol and DB Schenker have signed a strategic agreement for the supply of hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), marking a significant step toward reducing carbon emissions in the transport sector.

Under this collaboration, the logistics company will begin progressively integrating HVO into its vehicle fleet as part of its efforts to lower net CO₂ emissions. Starting in December, DB plans to use HVO in 34 vehicles across its Iberian fleet, aiming to consume 500,000 liters of the biofuel by 2025.

“This agreement reflects the shared commitment of both companies to reduce carbon footprints immediately, without needing to replace the current fleet,” said Carlos Suárez, Repsol’s B2B Mobility Director.

The initiative is expected to reduce over 1,500 tons of CO₂ emissions compared to the use of conventional diesel. By 2026, DB Schenker aims to expand its use of HVO in Iberia to over 60 vehicles, with a consumption goal of 1.2 million liters.

“This agreement with Repsol reflects our commitment to sustainability and the environment, marking another step in our ambitious decarbonization plan for the logistics sector in the Iberian Peninsula,” explained Alberto Pérez, Director of Road Transport at DB Schenker Iberia.

The renewable fleet will cover routes across the entire Iberian Peninsula, including Portugal. This strategy complements DB Schenker’s ongoing efforts to electrify part of its fleet, which currently includes 11 electric vehicles in Iberia.
