Deal adds 24 stores and Aztec Grill food program to Jacksons’ expanding network.
Redwood Oil Company, a family-owned convenience retailer with a 50-year history in Northern California, has sold its 24 convenience stores to Jacksons Food Stores, bringing Redwood’s network of locations and its Aztec Grill foodservice concept under the Jacksons banner.
Founded in the early 1970s by Peter Van Alyea, Redwood Oil grew from a single gas station in Marin County into one of Northern California’s most recognized convenience retailers. Over the decades, the company built a strong relationship with Chevron and launched Aztec Grill in 1997, an authentic Mexican food offering that now operates in 17 of its stores.
Under the leadership of current CEO Julie Van Alyea, Redwood embraced modernization, expanded retail offerings, and positioned itself as one of the West Coast’s most successful independent operators.
“For 53 years, the dedication of our people has been the foundation of our success,” said Julie Van Alyea. “As a family business, finding the right steward for the company we built was our top priority, and we are confident that Jacksons Food Stores will carry that legacy forward.”
The acquisition strengthens Jacksons Food Stores’ presence on the West Coast, adding Redwood’s Northern California footprint to its growing network.
Founded in 1975 and based in Meridian, Idaho, Jacksons operates more than 300 convenience stores across seven states under the Jacksons Food Stores and ExtraMile by Jacksons brands. The company has become a leading player in the sector by combining fuel retail with robust in-store food and beverage programs.
