ORLEN has launched a new sustainability initiative that allows customers to rescue surplus food directly from its Stop Cafe outlets. In partnership with the food-saving platform Nesnězeno, select stations in Prague and Brno are now offering “surprise bags” containing unsold but perfectly edible products at discounted prices.

The initiative addresses the environmental and social challenges posed by food waste while offering customers a practical and affordable way to enjoy fresh food. “Our aim is to provide practical solutions that combines sustainability and customer comfort,” said Agnieszka Bobrukiewicz, a member of the Board of Directors of ORLEN Unipetrol.

Each surprise bag’s contents vary depending on daily surplus but typically include fresh items such as sandwiches, wraps, baguettes, croissants, panini, and sweet pastries. Two versions are available during the pilot phase: a salty and a sweet bag.

Customers can book and pay for their bags via the Nesnězeno mobile app and pick them up between 12:00 and 16:00 — ideally while refueling or grabbing a coffee.

“We have a wealth of experience with large chains, including cafés, bakeries and food sellers. Therefore, we are pleased to welcome another strong brand present in the Czech market, such as ORLEN,” said Jakub Henni, co-founder and CEO of Nesnězeno. “They can rely on our customer base of more than 1.2 million users, a national coverage and more than seven years of experience in the local market, with a possibility to expand to the neighbouring countries.”

Currently in a pilot phase, the project aims to gauge customer interest before expanding to additional ORLEN sites across the country. The initiative marks another step in the company’s commitment to sustainability and offers customers a simple way to contribute to reducing food waste while enjoying fresh food at lower prices.
