Poppy Markets, a Union City, California-based convenience retail and fuel company, has acquired the petroleum marketing and convenience retail assets of National Petroleum.

Headquartered in Newark, California, National Petroleum operates 11 convenience stores and fuel stations and manages a wholesale fuel distribution network supplying over 100 dealers. Founded in 2004 by partners Sanjiv Patel and Nick Patel, National Petroleum began with a single 76-branded gas station in Berkeley, California.

Over two decades, the company expanded its presence across the San Francisco Bay Area, growing into a regional player with nearly 100 million gallons in annual fuel sales. In 2013, National entered wholesale fuel distribution and introduced its own proprietary National brand, offering cost-effective unbranded fuel and forecourt imaging designed to rival major brands.

At the time of the sale, National marketed fuels under its own brand as well as Valero, Chevron, Shell, Exxon, and Mobil, with a heavy emphasis on unbranded supply.
