TotalEnergies has announced a strategic partnership with French artificial intelligence company Mistral AI to accelerate the integration of AI across its multi-energy operations.

As part of the agreement, the two companies will launch a joint innovation lab, bringing together teams from both sides to design and test digital solutions using Mistral’s AI technologies and TotalEnergies’ expertise in energy production. The lab will support AI-driven applications in R&D, industrial performance, and customer engagement.

Initial use cases will include the creation of an AI assistant for over 1,000 company researchers, tools to optimize industrial asset performance and reduce CO₂ emissions, and solutions aimed at enhancing customer experience and promoting energy savings.

“AI has huge potential to transform energy systems. This partnership reflects our commitment to innovation and our ambition to build a strong technological ecosystem in Europe,” said Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies.

The lab will also explore applications in renewable energy production and assess AI infrastructure options in line with Europe’s digital sovereignty goals.

TotalEnergies has been applying AI in areas such as predictive maintenance, earth science, and operational optimization, and sees the technology as a key driver in its energy transition strategy. Its Digital Factory, now five years old, employs 300 specialists and has developed more than 100 digital tools, including machine learning and generative AI applications.
