Argentina’s state-owned energy company YPF is preparing to roll out a transformative dynamic pricing system for its service station network, aimed at adjusting fuel prices throughout the day based on real-time sales data.

Set to launch on June 23, the initiative will affect the over 1,600 company-operated locations across the country. This move reflects the firm’s efforts to modernize its retail operations and better compete in a volatile fuel market by adapting prices locally and instantly.

The core of the initiative lies in a concept known as “micropricing”, which will allow YPF to modify prices and launch promotions depending on sales performance at each station, as explained by its CEO, Horacio Marín.

The Real Time Intelligence Center, will serve as the nerve center for the micropricing system. From here, YPF will monitor sales performance across its entire retail network and adjust fuel prices dynamically, ensuring that each station’s offer aligns with local supply and demand conditions.

This micropricing strategy was first implemented in the company’s upstream operations at Vaca Muerta, one of the world’s largest shale oil and gas fields. There, the system helped improve production efficiency, reduce costs, and speed up drilling timelines.

This capability enables YPF to respond swiftly to regional market fluctuations, offering tailored pricing strategies that give it an edge against competitors.
